What Is A Simmer Pot & How Do You Make One?

Simmer Pots

What are they and how do I make one? Includes a new moon simmer pot recipe!

Simmer pots, also known as potpourri, have been around for centuries and have served many different cultures all over the world, particularly the pagan culture who wish to connect with the seasons and infuse their homes with magick.

Simmer pots are a mixture of intentionally picked herbs, fruits and spices and they are an amazing alternative to cleanse your home if you can’t cleanse with a smoke wand (eg. you’re asthmatic, have young children or pets..).

How do you use a simmer pot?

Some people like to include a simmer pot in spell work, celebrate a sabbat, full moon or as mentioned above, simply cleanse the home and get it smelling beautifully!

If you’re celebrating a sabbat, for example Yule, you want to be looking for ingredients that are typically found around that time of year. You can use simmer pots to enhance an intention, allow the scents and frequencies from the herbs and spices to infuse into your intention and for the aroma and magick to fill your home.

How do you make a simmer pot?

A simmer pot is super easy to make, and great to get the kids involved!

We recommend using moon water (water infused with full moon/new moon energies) to enhance your simmer pot, but no worries if you don’t have any! Just using filtered water does the job perfectly.

Fill your pot/pan about half to three quarters full with water. Then you want to add whichever herbs, spices or fruits you’re want within your simmer pot. Stir in your intentions (clockwise for attracting, counterclockwise for banishing). Then bring your pot to a simmer and allow the mesmerizing smells to fill your home. It’s that easy! We recommend simmering on a low heat for 1-2 hours but it can be left longer if you’d like a more potent spell. You may just need to add more water so be sure to keep an eye on it!

Witchy tip: you can strain the simmer pot once you’re done and use the water to spray and clean your walls, doors and floors to infuse the magick further!
